PERSONAL MANIFESTO
A year ago I decided to stop using social media the way it's built to be used nowadays. It wasn't an escape but a personal study for a project about human attention that I've been working on since then. I started again using social media like we used to do back then: to see the people I follow and talk to them, to socialize. Nothing more. Because social media platforms stopped being social a long time ago and became an infinite-scroll dumpster that steals our attention and capitalizes our time for their own benefit.
What started as a kind of detox ended up revealing something much bigger: a personal detox, total or partial, doesn't fix the real problem. Because the problem is not just personal but a society threat. It affects all of us. It's not about whether you or I are able to disconnect. It's about a planned manipulation with political and consumerist goals that destroy us, our democracies, our planet and make our society highly unfair.
After managing to destroy class struggle by turning us against each other over problems that the oligarchy created in the first place, making us addicted to something that clearly atrophies our mind to make it moldable to their manipulation. The current paradigm is not broken by accident but clearly designed that way. And disappearing from the world doesn't make much sense either. The change has to be of the whole paradigm, not of one isolated person.
That's why I decided not to leave social media completely but to fight back. I'm not going to create content for the algorithm. I'm not going to chase engagement.
I've started developing several film projects that don't try to please anyone but to share what I learn and what I know about the problems that concern me and most of the people. I want to build a small corner of culture, creativity and social criticism about the main problems of our time, from an artistic point of view. Not a clinical one. Far from the enshittification, algorithms and engagement of today's internet.
I was diagnosed with several neurodivergences. That has made it hard for me to understand people and for people to understand me, many times along my life. But it also gave me something valuable: the ability to abstract. To see and analyze things from a distance. That distance is what lets me do a deep social critique on this era of low quality entertainment, surface-level thinking, algorithms and AI slop content that only try to feed extreme consumerism and the political populisms we already see all over the world.
That's why I decided to change the direction of my future projects. Not just to show pretty images but to tell stories from an artistic perspective. Stories that ask questions and try to find answers in a beautiful way.
I'm currently working on 3 different projects, all produced, directed and self-funded:
Lo que guardamos, a critique of photography today. Of what technology stole from us when it took away photography as a tangible object. The memories we can no longer touch.
A project with no name yet, the one that started all this. About human attention. How our weaknesses are used by tech corporations to manipulate us. To parasite our minds and use us for their own economic and political benefit.
Memorias de Patagonia, a feature-length documentary where I cross Argentine Patagonia to collect memories and analyze how our brain builds them, comparing them alongside others who collected their own during the last century, and show how climate change is affecting nature even in the most isolated regions of the world. And how we will have to suffer things we're not even aware of yet. We are extremely vulnerable.
Every project takes me hundreds of hours to complete. Research. Script. Filming. Editing. Sound design. Everything financed and produced by myself, with the economic, physical and mental effort that means. No shortcuts. Just work.
That's why I've also opened this humble blog. To avoid falling into clickbait, into short content made for the algorithm, here I'll be posting my projects, ideas, behind the scenes, book recommendations I found interesting to read, or just random artistic or cultural topics I like to talk about. Just some kind of slow social media, as it was back then.
In return I don't ask for anything more than sharing and feedback.
Let's fight against the enshittification of the internet, against the algorithms and make the internet a place for art and culture again.
